DARK RIFT FILMS is an award winning feature film production company focused on producing big ideas on small budgets
Formed by PAUL BUTLER (Writer) & STEWART SPARKE (Director) in 2014, the two bring a unique blend of expertise from film and television production to writing, directing, producing, post-production and marketing.
Prior to making feature films, Paul & Stewart have had success with short films. CONTAINMENT was shortlisted for the Horror Channel's 2014 Shortcuts to Hell 2 competition and was included in the UK Horror Anthology Feature film. Later that year, their First World War short film LOSS AND LEGACY earned a ROYAL TELEVISION SOCIETY award nomination.
THE CREATURE BELOW was the production company's first feature film and premiered at FRIGHTFEST London in 2016 and has since secured distribution deals at CANNES and AFM in ten territories, with the now available on DVD, BLU-RAY & VOD around the world. Self financed by Paul & Stewart with a budget of only £12,000 and shot over just fourteen days, the film proved critically and commercially successful.
BOOK OF MONSTERS is the latest feature length horror film and began life as a Kickstarter campaign with a unique twist – backers could to vote on six key elements of the movie including what form the monsters would take and how they killed their victims! The Kickstarter campaign raised £45,000 and became one of the 15 most funded horror movies on the crowdfunding platform at the time. Principal photography was completed in October 2017. The film had its World Premiere at Arrow Video Frightfest on 25th August 2018 in London and has since picked up 7 awards, including most recently “Best Film” and “Best Special FX” at the New York City Horror Film Festival.
Epic Pictures Group acquired the worldwide rights to the film in August 2018 for their Dread label and released the film on Blu-ray, VOD and in select US cinemas on March 19th 2019.
DARK RIFT FILMS is now developing a commercially viable slate of genre feature films, seeking to bring their experience in producing big ideas on small budgets, to a larger audience.
